I talked briefly about the great potential that the region has to offer on the International stage and thought you would be interested in knowing exactly what and where that potential lies.
First of all the athletics facilities that North Wales has to offer is second to none. The recent addition of The Indoor Track in Deeside has added an extra dimension to an athletes training possibilities, especially during the cold winter months. Here athletes can train in many events including Sprints, High Jump, Pole Vault and Shot Put. We have 3 International Outdoor tracks, at Colwyn Bay, Deeside and Wrexham. The great thing about all of these is that they are available for anyone of all abilities to use, whenever you want.
In terms of coaches, I have been lucky to train under Les Baldwin MBE and Bernie Jones, both very experienced and respected coaches in North Wales. Bernie has recently taken up a coaching role at Welsh Athletics, which is good news for the North because knowing Bernie he will be constantly fighting North Wales' case on all the big issues.
Two athletes from the region that have been making an impact over the last couple of years are James Mills (800m) and Faye Harding (Multi Events). Both of these started their training under Les Baldwin at Wrexham, and in the coming weeks I will be writing about these athletes and others from all around North Wales, so that you can get an insight into their training, racing, daily routine and hopes for the future.
